That soul is first rooted in history. This magnificent estate was once the private property of Baron Haussmann, the man who redesigned Paris alongside Napoleon III under the Second Empire. It was here, away from the capital, that he built the château in 1864, in the very architectural style that still bears his signature today. Château de Rouillac has been committed to a comprehensive eco-responsible approach since 2010. In 2013, it became the first estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation to obtain the High Environmental Value certification (HVE Level 3), recognising a genuine, daily commitment to sustainable winegrowing an approach rewarded with two Gold Best Of awards at the Best of Wine Tourism competition.
Here, protecting nature is something we live, not something we tell. All chemical herbicides and insecticides have been replaced with natural methods, and part of the vineyard is now ploughed using animal traction, with Titan, our draft horse, working the rows.
Fifteen beehives thrive at the edge of the estate's forest, crossed by a small stream, while 400 metres of hedgerows welcome local wildlife.
Celebrating your wedding here means choosing a place where this sensitivity is felt down to the smallest detail: the estate's own honey can flavour your brunch, a stroll through the vines happens without the noise of an engine, and even our used cork stoppers are given a second life, supporting cancer research.
