Upton Barn & Walled Garden is an award winning exclusive use wedding venue nestled amid the beautiful Devon Countryside.
Providing not one but three unique spaces under one roof, allowing your wedding party to flow seamlessly from one to the other, and licensed for indoor and outdoor civil ceremonies giving you the freedom to design your wedding day to suit.
The lovingly restored Cider Barn is a blend of traditional and contemporary architecture with exposed roof trusses, polished concrete floor and a full height, glazed gable end which bathes the venue in natural light bringing the outside in. This stunning feature provides breath-taking views over the walled garden and Blackdown Hills and an idyllic spot for indoor wedding ceremonies.
Upton’s walled garden, the original Victorian garden built with the farmhouse has been lovingly restored. This contemporary garden is peaceful and tranquil and the perfect setting for a special event. With low stone bench seating or a large terrace with wrought iron furniture, your guests can meet here beforehand, or mingle for drinks and canapes after your ceremony.
The Stable Barn was formerly just that, stables! Richard’s father Chris is a successful National Hunt trainer and many of his past and present winners have been housed here over the years. The horses were re-homed in comfortable new lodgings and we set to work transforming the stables into a stunning new venue.
This architecturally inspired room complements the original Cider Barn and Press Bar with striking light installations, a commission by local blacksmith Georgina Richards; warm timber panelling; well-stocked bar; glorious views across the paddocks and seating for 156 guests. The perfect setting for a wedding breakfast feast!

My daughter was due to get married at Upton Barn this year and, due to Covid, they had to postpone. As upsetting as this was, the conduct and attitude of Upton Barn made the whole situation so much worse. They would not provide a ‘like for like’ alternative date, stating that Saturday slots would not be given to existing customers as they were being saved for ‘new customers’. My daughter felt she had no choice but to go with a mid-week day but was then told that she would still have to pay the premium weekend rate (over £3,000 more) and pay all remaining charges straight away, some 12 months before the revised wedding date. There was no empathy, or consideration, for what my daughter and her fiancé were going through and it seemed the whole process was about how much money Upton Barn could secure from this pandemic.
They say people show their true colours in tough times and Upton Barn certainly did. I would never have believed that a company selling the perfect wedding day fantasy, could be so lacking in compassion, understanding and reason in what has been a very difficult year for everyone.
Needless to say, my daughter decided not to stay with Upton Barn and found an amazing wedding venue who have gone out of their way to help accommodate her and achieve the wedding that she has always dreamed of… thank you Quantock Lakes Wedding Venue for changing a terrible experience into one of excitement and joy.
Beautiful garden, flowers, views, and lake. Great attention to the needs of the bride, groom and all the guests, including accessibility for a wheelchair user.
