2026 Industry Insights: Vital Information for your Wedding Venue
As we step into a fresh year of wedding planning, it’s time to share what we’ve uncovered from our platform data, couple insights, and importantly, your invaluable feedback.
A huge thank you to all the venues who took part in our recent survey. Your input shapes how we support you, and hearing your thoughts across such a wide range of topics genuinely helps us push the industry forward.
Wedinspire Audience Preferences
So, let’s get straight into what couples are craving from destination wedding venues in 2026/27…
A Multi-day celebration
One thing is clear: the destination wedding has evolved into a full multi-day experience. Couples are crafting celebrations that span three to five days, giving their guests an extended journey rather than a single event.
Almost all of the couples we surveyed (in fact 99%!) told us they are planning some kind of welcome event abroad, with the most loved ideas being relaxed cocktail gatherings, laid-back BBQs, or simple meet and greets as their guests settle into the accommodation.
Others are choosing something more active, such as water sports sessions, tennis matches or other group sports, while some favour family meals, cooking classes, spa moments, yoga, local excursions to museums or charming nearby towns, wine tastings, or an easy beach or beach club visit. For the finale, the energy continues with farewell brunches or post-wedding pool parties that allow everyone to enjoy one more moment together.
Could you collaborate with local partners to broaden your pre and post-wedding offerings? What distinctive experiences could your surroundings provide for guests who are eager to make the most of their trip?
On-Trend Styles
When it comes to Wedinspire couples’ wedding styles, colour palettes for 2026 through 2028 lean heavily towards soft, nature-inspired tones. Light neutrals and sage remain the top choices appearing on mood boards, while terracotta, warm browns and creamy mocha shades are becoming increasingly popular. They lend a grounded, contemporary aesthetic that couples are embracing wholeheartedly.
Seating With Style
Reception seating design is also shifting, moving away from strict uniform layouts to arrangements that feel more fluid and expressive. We’re seeing increased interest in long tables that curve through courtyards, wave-like formations, serpentine banquets and circular ceremony seating that places the couple at the heart of their guests.
These shapes not only look visually striking, they create more movement, interaction and a deeper sense of immersion throughout the celebration.
Planning trends
Couples are changing, what is important to them, how they are planning and what helps them and stands out when considering their wedding venue.
Lead Times Are Shrinking
The average lead time for destination weddings in 2025 was 17.8 months, a noticeable shift from 19.3 months in 2024 and more than 20 months in 2023. Couples are moving faster, and while we often encourage venues to expect around two years, this is clearly changing.
There’s strong potential to secure any remaining 2026 dates, especially as 17% of last year’s enquiries came from couples hoping to marry within a seven- to twelve-month window.
Ask Yourself: Are you set up to handle shorter-notice bookings? Can your team confidently coordinate a wedding within six months? If not, what operational tweaks could make it possible?
Fun Facts
- Sundays remain the most popular day for enquiries through our platform.
- The peak enquiry time (GMT) is 6–9pm.

Follow ups
When it comes to follow-ups, you’ll already know how strongly we advocate for them, they play a crucial role in boosting conversion rates. If you’d like a deeper dive into why they matter so much, you’ll find plenty more in our Venue Hub blog, The Power of Following Up: How a Simple Email Can Win More Wedding Bookings.
It may come a s surprise to you (or not?!) that 30% of our venue members only follow up once, and fifteen percent don’t follow up at all. This is particularly striking given that ninety-five percent of couples told us they genuinely don’t mind receiving follow-up emails. Many even said they appreciate the reminder because they may have missed an earlier message. Following up isn’t intrusive; it’s helpful.
Venue Visits
Another trend worth noting is how couples feel about venue visits. Over half of the couples we surveyed either have booked or plan to book their venue without seeing it in person.
Among that group, 20% made their decision to book after watching a video tour. This reinforces how important virtual content has become, not only as a marketing tool but as a pivotal decision-making factor.
Initial Enquiry Behaviour
We also explored how Wedinspire couples first make contact with a venue. Around a quarter of enquiries come through the Wedinspire platform, while the majority reach out directly via venue websites, email, phone calls, or social media. Interestingly, 15% of couples now initiate contact straight through a venue’s Instagram page, highlighting the growing importance of social channels.
Your Wedinspire profile connects all these touchpoints, making it easy for couples to enquire with your venue in whichever way feels most natural.
This also explains why some venues that have temporarily paused their membership in the past, have seen a noticeable drop in website traffic and a decline in direct enquiries from their own platforms. It’s a clear reminder that a strong digital presence is multi-layered, and every touchpoint matters.
To stay competitive, it’s essential to maintain visibility across all the digital spaces where couples are browsing, comparing, and shortlisting venues. From your social channels to your website, every element of your online presence plays a pivotal role in converting enquiries into bookings.
What Couples Care About Most
We also asked couples what they focus on when researching a venue, offering examples such as social pages, websites, reviews, real weddings, and Instagram galleries, and overwhelmingly, most couples ticked every single option. This demonstrates just how thorough couples are when planning a destination wedding and underscores the importance of keeping information across every platform accurate, current, and compelling.
Biggest Frustrations
The two biggest bug-bears couples noted when hearing back from a venue were slow response times and overly complex pricing, and both are relatively simple to address.
We strongly recommend responding to enquiries within 24 hours. If that isn’t always possible, such as over weekends, an automated message acknowledging the enquiry and letting the couple know you’ll respond shortly can make all the difference. The worst frustration is receiving no response at all.
Complex pricing is another common pain point. While we all understand that weddings are bespoke, couples at the early stages of planning need clear, concise information. It’s worth seeking unbiased feedback on your communications to determine whether your pricing is overly complicated and might discourage potential clients.
Which Photos Matter Most
When we asked couples which photos mattered most, the answer was clear, they want it all. Exterior and interior shots, table settings and décor, accommodation images, and real wedding photography are all essential. With so many couples choosing not to visit in person, your visual presentation carries enormous weight.
From our own testing, we’ve seen that the first five images in a gallery have a particularly strong influence on engagement. Showcasing your venue at its best, with minimal distractions or crowds, allows couples to imagine their own celebration there. Real weddings remain incredibly valuable, but are often more effective when featured further down in the larger gallery.
It’s worth pausing to ask yourself: Do you have strong, comprehensive visuals covering your venue’s interior and exterior, reception and ceremony set-ups, décor, accommodation, and real weddings? And is your Wedinspire profile gallery fully optimised to showcase them?
